Top NZ Mare Haylee Baylee Retired To Stud
Waikato racemare Haylee Baylee (Oregon-Mac's Gold, by Le Belvedere) has been retired & "will be sent to stud this spring," reported NZ Thoroughbred Marketing. Taupiri owner-trainer John Morell confirmed 5YO Haylee Baylee will be mated with Coolmore Stud's multiple Gr1 English & Irish Derby winner Galileo (Sadler's Wells) this spring & noted: "She was to run in the Ipswich Cup a week ago, but pulled up a bit sore before that. There was some filling in her fetlock & I decided it was time to retire her. And since she was already in Australia, she could go to stud over there rather than bring her straight home. She has gone down to Coolmore in NSW & will be served by Galileo. If she doesn't get in foal, I could try her again next season; but hopefully she will get in foal." Haylee Baylee won 7 races for Morell prior to her recent Australian campaign (where she finished her career with a 3rd in the Gr3 Premier's Cup & 5th in the Gr2 O'Shea Stakes in Brisbane). Her highlights include wins in the Gr3 Rotorua Challenge Plate (1900m) at Arawa Park last October & Listed Manawatu Breeders' Stakes (2000m) in April, plus placings in the Gr1 NZ Bloodstock Avondale Gold Cup (2200m), Gr2 ARC Championship Stakes, Gr2 Travis Stakes & Listed Matamata Cup.
