1st Winner For Shrewdy

Wednesday, 30th August 2006

In Australia, Foxes Hollow stallion Shrewdy (Danehill-Canny Miss, by Marscay) recorded his 1st winner when 3YO colt Rising Moon (Shrewdy-Moondrop, by Crazy Moon) scored by a head on debut over 1200m at Bairnsdale in Victoria yesterday. Rising Moon is the 1st foal of unraced mare Moondrop "whose dam Rain Orphan was the last foal produced by the grand broodmare Rain Spot (by Valognes)," noted racenet.com.au. Rain Spot died in 1981 after giving birth to Royal Orphan; 17 years earlier she foaled "one of the great stayers of the Australian turf Rain Lover, whose 14 stakes wins included back-to-back victories in the 1968-69 Gr1 Melbourne Cups"; & another of Rain Spot's foals, South Australian Oaks winner Rain Amore "left Kewney Stakes & Queen Of The Turf Stakes winner More Rain (by Brave Lad)".
