US Miler Entered For Vic Spring Carnival
US-owned 6YO entire Diamond Green (by Green Desert) was entered yesterday for the Victorian Spring Carnival's premier 1600m races: Group1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield on October 14; Gr2 Waterford Crystal Mile (1600m) at Moonee Valley on October 28; & Gr1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on November 11. Racing Victoria's Leigh Jordon confirmed the presence of Diamond Green would be "an unexpected, but welcome, bonus for the 2006 Spring Racing Carnival" & noted: "It is very pleasing to see even more interest in the Spring Racing Carnival from the US. This can only be a good thing for the industry & hopefully it is a sign of things to come in the future." Diamond Green has notched 4 wins & 9 placings from 17 starts to date: he started his career in France, where he won the Gr3 Prix La Rochette (1400m) & finished runner-up in 3 Gr1 events during his 3YO season; he then went to the US & is currently trained by Bobby Frankel for Bobby Trussell (co-owner of prominent American stud Walmac Farm). Diamond Green will be transferred to a local trainer to oversee his Australian preparation & will remain in Australia over summer to prepare for the 2007 Asian Mile Challenge (of which the Futurity Stakes (1600m) at Caulfield is the opening leg). Jordon added: "They are bringing the horse to Melbourne, as they believe he will be better suited to Australian conditions. They are also keen to target next year's Asian Mile Challenge with Diamond Green & their long-term aim is to stand the horse at stud.''
