Alzao Adds UK Gr3
In the UK overnight, Coolmore Stud's former Lindsay Park shuttler Alzao (Lyphard-Lady Rebecca, by Sir Ivor) added a group success when Hamdan Al Maktoum's 6YO entire Maraahel (Alzao-Nasanice, by Nashwan) grabbed victory by a head for the 3rd successive year in the £65,000 (A$156,000) Gr3 Huxley Stakes (10.5 furlongs) for 4YOs & up at Chester. Front-running favourite Maraahel (ridden by Richard Hills for Sir Michael Stoute) defeated Blue Bajan (Montjeu-Gentle Thoughts, by Darshaan) & Ivy Creek (Gulch-Ivy Leaf, by Nureyev). Shadwell-bred Maraahel also won last month's Gr3 John Porter Stakes (12 furlongs) at Newbury & his previous highlights include victory in 2006's Gr2 Hardwicke Stakes (12 furlongs) at Royal Ascot (& runner-up in the 2005 renewal of that race), plus 2005 placings in the Gr1 Hong Kong International Cup (2000m) at Sha Tin, UK Gr1 Champion Stakes (10 furlongs) at Newmarket, UK Gr3 Strensall Stakes (9 furlongs) at York & UK Gr1 Juddmonte International Stakes (10.5 furlongs) at York.
