Finsceal Beo Wins Irish Gr1 1000 Guineas
In Ireland overnight, former Victorian shuttler Mr Greeley (Gone West-Long Legend, by Reviewer) added a Gr1 triumph when daughter Finsceal Beo (Mr Greeley-Musical Treat, by Royal Academy) also followed-up her course-record victory 3-weeks-ago in the Gr1 English 1000 Guineas (8 furlongs) at Newmarket with victory by a neck in the €400,000 (A$640,000) Gr1 Irish 1000 Guineas (8 furlongs) for 3YO fillies at the Curragh. Favourite Finsceal Beo (ridden by Kevin Manning for trainer Jim Bolger) defeated fast-finishing Dimenticata (Danetime-Non Dimenticar Me, by Don't Forget Me) & Peeping Fawn (Danehill-Maryinsky, by Sadler's Wells). Finsceal is only the 2nd filly (after Attraction in 2004) to win both the English-Irish 1000 Guineas double. Bred in Ireland by Rathberry Stud, Finsceal Beo (whose name is the Gaelic translation of "Living Legend") was a €340,000 (A$544,000) Goffs yearling purchase & overall now boasts 5 wins & a runner-up (a fortnight ago in France's Gr1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches-French 1000 Guineas over 1600m at Longchamp) from 8 starts. Last season she was European 2YO champion, after blitzing her rivals by 5-lengths in France's Gr 1 Prix Marcel Boussac (1600m) at Longchamp & following-up with a 3-lengths victory in the UK Gr2 Rockfel Stakes (7 furlongs) at Newmarket.
