In South America, favoured 3YO colt Quatro Mares (Jules-Val D'equine, by Equalize) "unleashed an explosive move in midstretch" to race away for a 4.25-lengths victory against older rivals in Brazil's Gr1 Grande Premio ABCPCC Matias Machline-Copa Classica (2000m on turf), the feature race of the Copa dos Criadores card (Brazil's version of the US Breeders' Cup Championships) at Hipodromo La Gavea in Rio de Jaineiro, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Quatro Mares (ridden by Jorge Ricardo for trainer Roberto Morgado Neto & owner-breeder Haras Santa Maria de Araras) defeated last year's winning 4YO Top Hat (Royal Academy-Tavira, by Effervescing) & 5-time Gr1-winning stable-mate & fellow 3YO colt Quick Road (Jules-Jamaica Road, by Ghadeer). Quatro Mares took his record to 4 wins (plus runner-up last start in the Gr1 Grande Premio Cruzeiro do Sul-Brazilian Derby at La Gavea on April 15 & 3rd in February's Gr1 Grand Premio Estado Do Rio De Janiero at La Gavea) from 9 starts.
