US Breeders' Cup Invite To Sniper's Bullet
Trainer Tracey Bartley revealed 3YO gelding Sniper's Bullet (Bite The Bullet-Yallah Terrace, by Yallah Prince) "has been recognised on the global stage by the organisers of the world's richest race day," reported racenet.com.au. Following the victory by Sniper's Bullet over older rivals in last month's Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm, owners Nerida & Roger Atkinson "received an invitation to contest the US Gr1 Breeders' Cup Mile later this year", though Bartley noted: "Where it sits now regarding costs & other things, I'm not too sure." The US$2 million GFr1 Breeders Cup Mile is run on turf & this year "will be hosted by Monmouth Park in New Jersey on October 27" (less than 24 hours after the Gr1 Cox Plate meeting at Moonee Valley in Melbourne). Sniper's Bullet has been nominated for the Cox Plate, but Bartley "prefers the Gr1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) on the final day of the VRC carnival". The trainer "indicated a final decision on accepting a Breeders Cup invitation would be left to the Atkinsons", but summed up: "It's an honour to receive an invitation, but I think the right thing would be not too look at this year. Next year would be his go." Sniper's Bullet (for whom a reported offer of $1 million from Hong Kong was turned down earlier this year) boasts 6 wins & 4 placings (including March's Gr1 Royal Randwick Guineas over 1600m & February's Gr2 Royal Sovereign Stakes over 1200m) from 11 starts for $930,350 earnings.
