Kaatoon Wins NZ Lowland Stakes
Deceased former Windsor Park Stud stallion Kaapstad (Sir Tristram-Eight Carat, by Pieces of Eight) added a group success when favoured daughter Kaatoon (Kaapstad-Toonsie, by Affirmed) made it 2 successive stakes-wins in 3 weeks with victory by a long-neck in the NZ$75,000 G3 Lowland Stakes (2100m) for 3YO fillies at Trentham in Wellington. Kaatoon (ridden by Gavin McKeon for trainer Roger James) defeated Pretty Vegas (Viking Ruler-Straight Show, by Straight Strike) & Princess Annaliese (Van Nistelrooy-My Funny Face, by Marscay). Kaatoon took her record to 3 wins (also including last start's Gr2 Cambridge Stud Sir Tristram Fillies Classic over 2000m at Te Rapa on February 9) & 3 placings (including December's Listed Great Northern Guineas Prelude over 2100m at Ellerslie & both January's Gr2 NZ Bloodstock Royal Stakes over 2000m at Ellerslie & Gr3 Desert Gold Stakes over 1600m at Trentham) from 7 starts. This race was also the 9th leg in the 10-race NZ Bloodstock 2007-08 Filly-Of-The-Year Series & the victory saw Kaatoon jump to 2nd place on the leaders' ladder with 21 points (just 1 point behind leader Insouciant, who could only finish 7th behind Kattoon in this latest leg).
