Jay Peg Wins Gr1 Dubai Duty Free

Monday, 31st March 2008

South African-bred & trained dual-Classic-winning 4YO entire Jay Peg (Camden Park-Laptop Lady, by Al Mufti) fought back doggedly after being headed in the straight (when his jockey's saddle slipped) to score a half-length victory in the US$5 million Gr1 Dubai Duty Free (1777m on turf) in new course record time (1min 46.2sec) at Nad Al Sheba. Despite starting from barrier 14, front-running Jay Peg (ridden by Anton Marcus for trainer Herman Brown) defeated Princess Zahra Aga Khan's French-bred & trained 4YO mare Darjina (Zamindar-Darinska, by Zilzal) & US-bred & South African-trained 4YO entire Archipenko (Kingmambo-Bound, by Nijinsky). Jay Peg was South Africa's 2007 champion 3YO Male after winning both the Gr1 Cape Derby (2000m) at Kenilworth & Gr1 Cape Guineas (1600m) at Kenilworth; at his latest start he finished runner-up in the Gr2 Jebel Hatta Stakes (1777m on turf) at Nad Al Sheba on March 6.
