NZ Gr2-Winner Cog Hill Retired
Meanwhile trainer Richard Collett confirmed NZ Gr2-winning & multiple Gr1-placed 7YO gelding Cog Hill (Star Way-Regal Flight, by Straight Strike) has been retired from racing "due to wear and tear on his joints". Sprinter-miler Cog Hill (a NZ$24,000 yearling at 2002 NZ Bloodstock Select Sale at Karaka) recorded 11 wins (including the 2006 Gr 2 Rich Hill Mile over 1600m at Ellerslie & Australia's Gr3 Lord Mayor's Cup over 1615m at Doomben, as well as 2005's Gr3 Couplands Bakeries Mile over 1600m at Riccarton Park) & 17 placings (including 2007's Gr1 Mudgway Partsworld Stakes over 1400m at Hastings, Gr3 Manawatu Challenge Stakes over 1400m at Awapuni & Listed Foxbridge Plate over 1400m at Te Rapa, plus 2006's Australian Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap over 1400m at Eagle Farm & Listed Fairdale Stud Flying Handicap over 1400m at Awapuni, as well as 2005's Gr3 Manawatu Challenge Stakes over 1400m at Awapuni & Listed Kelt Memorial Handicap over 1400m at Hastings) from 39 starts for NZ$598,452 earnings.
