Multiple graded stakes-winning US freshman sire Sir Cherokee (Cherokee Run-La Cucina, by Last Tycoon) recorded his 1st winner when 2YO gelding Need A Name (Sir Cherokee-Lost Command, by Lost Code) scored by 2.25-lengths on debut over 5 furlongs at Churchill Downs in Kentucky for trainer Merrill Scherer, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Sir Cherokee stands for US$7,500 at Crestwood Farm in Kentucky & has 31 2YOs in his 1st crop. On the track, Sir Cherokee notched 6 wins (including the 2003 Gr2 Arkansas Derby, plus 2004's Gr3 Ack Ack Handicap & MAXXAM Gold Cup Handicap) from 19 starts for US$628,296 earnings.
