Duke Of Marmalade Wins Irish Gr1 Tatts Gold Cup
Also at The Curragh overnight, ill-fated Coolmore shuttler & multiple champion sire Danehill (Danzig-Razyana, by His Majesty) added another Gr1 triumph when Ballydoyle's favoured 4YO entire Duke Of Marmalade (Danehill-Love Me True by Kingmambo) scored a 1.25-lengths victory in Ireland's €300,000 (A$510,000) Gr1 Tattersalls Gold Cup (10.5 furlongs) for 4YOs & up. Duke Of Marmalade (ridden by Johnny Murtagh for trainer Aidan O'Brien) defeated dual classic-winning 4YO mare Finsceal Beo (Mr Greeley-Musical Treat, by Royal Academy) & the winner's stable-mate & fellow 4YO entire Red Rock Canyon (Rock Of Gibraltar-Imagine, by Sadler's Wells). At his previous start Duke Of Marmalade also won last month's French Gr1 Gr1 Prix Ganay (2100m) at Longchamp; & last season he finished runner-up in both the Irish Gr1 Champion Stakes (10 furlongs) against older horses at Leopardstown & UK Gr1 St James's Palace Stakes (8 furlongs) at Royal Ascot, as well as 3rd in the UK Gr1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (8 furlongs) against older rivals at Ascot.
