US Multiple Gr1-Winner Nashoba's Key Euthanased
In the US, multiple Gr1-winning 5YO mare Nashoba's Key (Silver Hawk-Nashoba, by Caerleon) was euthanased "after breaking a hind leg" in a freak accident when she "kicked the wall of her pen" at Hollywood Park in California, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. At her last start Nashoba's Key blitzed her rivals by 4.5-lengths in the US Gr1 Santa Margarita Invitational Handicap (9 furlongs on the all-weather track) at Santa Anita Park in California on March 9. Nashoba's Key grabbed headlines across the US in 2007 when she began her career as a 4YO last year with 7 consecutive victories (including the Gr1 Yellow Ribbon Stakes over 10 furlongs on turf at Santa Anita & Gr1 Vanity Handicap over 9 furlongs on Cushion Track at Hollywood Park, plus the Gr2 Milady Breeders' Cup Handicap at Hollywood Park, Gr2 Clement Hirsch Handicap at Del Mar & Listed Fran's Valentine Stakes at Hollywood Park) before her 1st defeat (when 4th) in the Gr1 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Monmouth Park in October to close her 3YO campaign. This year she began with a runner-up in the Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Turf Stakes at Santa Anita before her Gr1 Santa Margarita triumph & overall tallied 8 wins from 10 starts for US$1,252,090 earnings.
