Captain Bax Wins Missile Stakes
On the Australian track, ill-fated Arrowfield Stud sire Snippets (Lunchtime-Easy Date, by Grand Chaudiere) added a group success when just-turned 7YO gelding Captain Bax (Snippets-Snow Finch, by Storm Bird) scored a half-length victory in the $125,000 weight-for-age Gr3 Missile Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens in Sydney. Captain Bax (ridden by Tim Clark for trainer Kris Lees) defeated Gr1-winning 5YO gelding Typhoon Zed (Zeditave-Royal Diploma, by Honor Grades) & 5YO mare Interfere (Royal Academy-Bletchwyn, by Bletchingly). Captain Bax (passed-in for $70,000 when consigned by Macquarie Stud at the 2003 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney) now has 9 wins (also including June's Listed Pacesetter Handicap over 1200m at Gosford) & 7 placings (including last start's Listed Ramornie Handicap over 1200m at Grafton on July 16 & the month before's Listed June Stakes over 1100m at Randwick) from 36 starts for $488,700 earnings.
