Irish Champ & Sire Ela-Mana-Mou Euthanased

Former European champion racehorse & veteran staillion Ela-mana-mou (Pitcairn-Rose Bertin, by High Hat) was euthanased at Ireland's Simmonstown Stud (part of the Airlie organisation) in County Kildare aged 32, reported thoroughbredinternet.com. Ela-mana-mou cost just 4,500 guineas (A$9,900) as a yearling & went on to notch 10 wins from 15 starts for £286,581 (A$600,000) prize-money. He was crowned Champion Older Horse in 1980 & his 10 victories included the Gr1 Eclipse Stakes, Gr1 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes & Gr1 Prince of Wales's Stakes. He retired to Airlie Stud in 1981 & his Gr1 winners include Sumayr, Snurge & Double Trigger. As a broodmare sire, his star daughters include Petrushka, Gamut, White Muzzle, Alcazar & Equiano.
