US Triple Champ Azeri At Keeneland Jan Sale

Friday, 5th December 2008

In the US, 2002 Horse-Of-The-Year & 3-time champion older mare Azeri (Jade Hunter-Zodiac Miss, by Ahonoora) in-foal to 2004 Horse-Of-The-Year Ghostzapper, highlights Keeneland's January Horses-Of-All-Ages Sale (January 12-17). Now 10-year-old Azeri "is 1 of only 6 fillies ever to win Horse-Of-The-Year honors & the only female to earn 3 Eclipse Awards as champion older mare (2002, 2003 & 2004)" reported bloodhorse.com. During 4 seasons of racing, Azeri won 17 of 24 starts (including 14 graded stakes) & earned US$4,079,820; among her 11 Gr1 triumphs were victories in the Breeders' Cup Distaff, Apple Blossom Handicap (3 times), Vanity Handicap (twice), Milady Breeders' Cup (twice) & Juddmonte Spinster Stakes. Azeri's 1st live foal Vallenzeri (by A.P.Indy) was consigned to the 2008 Keeneland September yearling sale, but the colt failed to meet his reserve & was bought-back by Michael Paulson (son of the late Allen Paulson) for US$7.7 million (the most expensive buy-back in Keeneland sale history).
