Montjeu Adds Italian Black-Type
Also in Italy overnight, dual-Derby winning Coolmore sire & former NZ Windsor Park shuttler Montjeu (Sadler's Wells-Floripedes, by Top Ville) added a black-type success when Irish-bred 6YO entire Montalegre (Montjeu-Alma Alegre, by Lahib) scored a half-length victory in the €44,000 (A$84,000) Listed Premio Mediterraneo Memorial Francesco Faraci (2300m) at Siracusa. Montalegre (ridden by Dario Vargiu for trainer for trainers Alduino & Giuseppe Botti) defeated fellow Irish-bred 6YO gelding Cape Martin (Polish Precedent-Clara House, by Shirley Heights) & 5YO gelding Fa A Mezz (Halling-Sispre, by Master Willie). Previously this season Montalegre also notched placings in Italy's Gr3 Premio Carlo D'Alessio (2400m) at Capannelle, Listed Premio Rioma Vecchia (2800m) at Capannelle & Listed Coppa D'Oro (300m) at San Siro. During 2007 Montalegre won the Listed Premio Coppa D'Oro Di Milano (3000m) at San Siro for the 2nd year in succession, plus the Listed Gran Premio Unire (2250m) at Naples & placed in the Gr3 Premio Federico Tesio (2200m) at San Siro, Listed Premio Roma Vecchia (2800m) at Capannelle, Listed St Leger Italiano (2800m) at San Siro & Listed Premio Reione Toscana (2000m) at Pisa. In 2006 Montalegre won the Listed Coppa D'Oro (noted above) & placed in the Listed Listed Premio Mediterraneo Memorial Francesco Faraci (2300m) at Siracusa. In 2005 Montalegre notched placings in both the Listed Premio Villa Borghese (2000m) at Capannelle & Listed Premio Emanuele Filiberto (2000m) at San Siro. And as a 2YO in 2004, Montalegre finished runner-up in the Listed Premio Campobello (1800m) at San Siro. Overall Montalegre now has 4 wins & 13 placings from 22 starts for £129,523 (A$311,000) earnings.
