Gr1-Winning Widden Sire General Nediym Euthanased
In Australia, Widden Stud's dual Gr1-winning stallion General Nediym (Nediym-Military Belle, by Without Fear) was euthanased yesterday morning following a recurrence of colic aged 14. On the track, star sprinter General Nediym recorded 13 wins (including the Gr1 Lightning Stakes, Gr1 Newmarket Handicap, Gr2 San Domenico Stakes, Gr2 Up And Coming Stakes, Gr2 Stan Fox Stakes, Gr2 Todman Slipper Trial, Gr2 BTC Carlton Cup, Listed heritage Stakes & Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic) & 4 placings (including the Gr1 Caulfield Guineas, Gr1 Doomben Ten Thousand, Gr2 Expressway Stakes & Gr2 Apollo Stakes) from 21 starts for $2,128,998 earnings. General Nediym retired to stud in 1999 & was champion 1st-season sire in 2002-03. Last season General Nediym was Australia's leading sire of individual 2YO winners with 15 (including 5 stakes-winners: Sidereus, Siennas Fury, Kert, Delta Girl & Taameer); & this season he already has 4 2YO winners (including dual stakes-winner Paprika). Overall he has 68 individual winners this season & is currently 13th on the General Sires list. General Nediym covered 148 mares in the 2008 breeding season before withdrawn from service when first struck by colic in early December.
