Kaaptan Wins NZ 2009 Ford 2YO Series
Also in NZ, juvenile gelding Kaaptan (Kaapstad-Fanny Black, by Chem) has won this season's Ford 2YO Series, which concluded with the victory by Australian-bred gelding The Heckler (Lucky Owners-Comedy Café, by Rory's Jester) in last weekend's Gr1 Ford Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) at Awapuni. In recent weeks, Kaaptan (a NZ$65,000 yearling at the 2008 NZ Bloodstock Select Sale at Karaka) won the Gr1 Ford Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Ellerslie on March 7 & also finished 3rd in the Listed Fairview Ford Matamata Slipper (1200m) at Matamata on February 21. He topped the Ford points table ahead of The Heckler (originally a $26,000 weanling at the 2007 Inglis Select Sale & subsequently a NZ$70,000 yearling consigned from Woodridge Farm at the 2008 NZ Bloodstock Select Sale at Karaka) who also won January's Listed Karaka Millions (1200m) at Ellerslie, followed by fellow gelding King's Ransom (King's Chapel-Joan, by Colonel Collins) who was a NZ$75,000 yearling consigned by Windsor Park at the 2008 NZ Bloodstock Select Sale & won both the Listed Fairview Ford Matamata Slipper (1200m) at Matamata on February 21 & January's Gr2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes (1200m) at Trentham.
