Texas 2YOs: US$170k Yankee Gentleman Colt
In the US, trainer Steve Asmussen (acting for Ragin Cajun Stable) paid top price of US$170,000 for a colt by Yankee Gentleman (out of 12-year-old stakes-placed Carr de Naskra mare Carrena Rose) during the 1-day Fasig-Tipton Texas 2YOs-In-Training Sale at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie. The Louisiana-bred colt (already named Gentle Moment) was consigned by Keith & Marilyn Asmussen's Asmussen Horse Center as agent for Maggi Moss & clocked 10.6sec for 1 furlong during the pre-sale breeze-up session. He previously sold twice in 2008: initially for US$31,000 at the Ocala Breeders Sales Co winter mixed sale & then for US$67,000 at the Keeneland September yearling auction. Marilyn Asmussen told bloodhorse.com: "He had so much interest because he's a genuine product with a terrific mature attitude. He does everything right. I'm really pleased because I know Steve (her trainer son) will do everything to make sure he reaches his absolute potential. You want these horses you sell to go on & succeed."
