Monday, 6th April 2009

Victoria's Racing & Appeals Disciplinary Board disqualified former Melbourne bookmaker Simon Beasley for 4 years & fined him $50,000 after he pleaded guilty to charges of "improper practice" for failing to record 1,828 bets worth over $4 million over a 30-months period (from April 2006 to October 2008). Beasley told the media: "Clearly I have broken the rules of racing in this state & I'm very sorry & I'm very remorseful for that. I have caused a lot of anguish for a lot of people & I apologise for that." Meanwhile The Herald-Sun revealed entertainment promoter Andrew McManus was the source of $1.8 million worth of the unrecorded bets.
