Dane Julia Wins NZ Gr1 NZB Breeders Stakes

Monday, 6th April 2009

In New Zealand, Australian-trained & South African-bred 5YO mare Dane Julia (Caesour-Precious Julia, by Danehill) finished strongly from back in the field to score by a long-neck in the NZ$200,000 weight-for-age Gr1 NZB Breeders Stakes (1600m) for fillies & mares at Te Aroha. Dane Julia (ridden by Michael Walker for Australian trainer Lee Freedman) defeated Australian-bred favoured 3YO filly Shanzero (Danzero-Arising, by Marauding) & fast-finishing fellow 5YO mare Veloce Bella (Volksraad-Wave To Lottie, by Crested Wave). Dane Julia (part-owned by Miss Andretti's owner Sean Buckley) finished 3rd in a 3-way photo-finish to the Gr3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 21; earlier in her career as a 3YO, she won both South Africa's 2007 Gr1 Fillies Classic (1800m) at Turffontein & Gr2 Gauteng Fillies Guineas (1600m) at Turffontein. Overall she now has 7 wins & 5 placings from 21 starts for NZ$319,551 earnings.
