Monday, 6th April 2009

NZ Cambridge Stud's multiple champion sire Zabeel (Sir Tristram-Lady Giselle, by Nureyev) added a Gr1 triumph group when 2007 Gr1 AJC Australian Derby winner & now 5YO gelding Fiumicino (Zabeel-Latte, by Maroof) scored a 0.75-length victory in the $2.25 million weight-for-age Gr1 The BMW (2400m) at Rosehill. Fiumicino (ridden by Darren Beadman for trainers Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes) defeated front-running 5YO gelding Theseo (Danewin-Ozone Sand, by L'Enjoleur) & favoured 5YO entire Viewed (Scenic-Lover's Knot, by Khozaam). Fiumicino (a NZ$425,000 yearling consigned by Cambridge Stud at the 2005 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka) now has 5 wins (also including 2008's Gr2 Hill Stakes over 1900m at Rosehill & 2007's Gr1 Australian Derby over 2400m at Randwick) & 3 placings (including 2008's Gr3 Colin Stephen Quality Handicap over 2400m at Randwick & 2007's Gr1 Rosehill Guineas over 2000m) from 21 starts for $2,718,725 earnings.
