I Want Revenge Wins US Gr1 Wood Memorial

Monday, 6th April 2009

In the US, favoured colt I Want Revenge (Stephen Got Even-Meguial, by Roy) badly missed the start "after breaking in the air as the gates opened" & was then held-up for a clear run in the straight, but eventually gained room to surge clear for a 1.5-lengths victory in the US$750,000 Gr1 Wood Memorial Stakes (9 furlongs) for 3YOs at Aqueduct in New York "in what can only be described as an amazing performance," declared bloodhorse.com. I Want Revenge (ridden by Joseph Talamo for trainer Jeff Mullins) defeated fellow colts West Side Bernie (Bernstein-Time Honored, by Gilded Time) & Just A Coincidence (Forestry-Scads, by Forty Niner). At his previous start, I Want Revenge won the Gr3 Gotham Stakes (8.5 furlongs) at Aqueduct by 8.5-lengths on March 7 & overall now boasts 3 wins & 4 placings (including February's Gr2 Robert Lewis Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Santa Anita, plus 2008's Gr1 Hollywood Futurity over 8.5 furlongs at Hollywood Park) from 8 starts for US$816,000 earnings as he heads towards next month's Gr1 Kentucky Derby.
