Aust-Bred Joyful Winner Takes Macau Gr1 HK Trophy

In Macau, Emirates Park Stud stallion El Moxie (Conquistador Cielo-Raise The Standard, by Hoist The Flag) added a Gr1 triumph when Australian-bred 8YO gelding Joyful Winner (El Moxie-Northern Tycoon, by Last Tycoon) led in an Australian-bred trifecta with a 0.75-length victory in the Gr1 Macau Hong Kong Trophy (1500m) at Taipa. Joyful Winner (ridden by Eric Saint-Martin for Hong Kong-based trainer Dennis Yip) defeated fellow Australian-breds 6YO gelding Gallant Lion (Bletchley Park-Chanviel, by Jevington) & 8YO gelding Let Go (Encosta de Lago-Receive, by Our Westminster). Joyful Winner (a $24,000 yearling consigned by Emirates Park at the 2002 Magic Millions National Sale on the Gold Coast) took his record to 9 wins (also including both 2007 & 2006's HK Gr1 Queen's Silver Jubilee Cup over 1400m at Sha Tin) & 10 placings (including 2008's HK Gr1 Queen's Silver Jubilee Cup over 1400m at Sha Tin & HK Gr2 Chairman's Trophy over 1600m at Sha Tin, plus 2007's HK Gr1 Champions Mile over 1600m at Sha Tin, as well as 2006's Japan Gr1 Yasuda Kinen over 1600m at Tokyo & HK Gr1 Champions Mile over 1600m at Sha Tin) from 43 starts for A$3.5 million earnings.
