Buena Vista Wins Japan Gr1 1000 Guineas

Tuesday, 14th April 2009

In Japan, last year's champion 2YO filly Buena Vista (Special Week-Biwa Heidi, by Caerleon) came from the tail of the field of 18 runners to score a half-length victory in the ¥210.67m (A$3.58m) Gr1 Oka Sho-1000 Guineas (1600m) for 3YO fillies at Hanshin. Favourite Buena Vista (ridden by Katsumi Ando for trainer Hiroyoshi Matsuda) defeated Red Desire (Manhattan Cafe-Great Sunrise, by Caerleon) & Germinal (Agnes Tachyon-Ombre Legere, by Double Bed). Buena Vista took her record to 4 wins (also including last month's Listed Tulip Sho over 1600m at Hanshin, plus 2008's Gr1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies over 1600m) & a placing from 5 starts.
