Ortensia Wins Bell Handicap

Tuesday, 14th April 2009

Vinery Stud stallion Testa Rossa (Perugino-Bo Dapper, by Sir Dapper) added a black-type success when top-weighted daughter Ortensia (Testa Rossa-Aerate's Pick, by Picnicker) made it 3 successive wins (& 2-in-a-row since returning from a 26-weeks spell) with a half-length victory in the $110,000 Listed P.J.Bell Handicap (1200m) for 3YO fillies at Randwick. Favourite Ortensia (ridden by Craig Williams for trainer Tony Noonan) defeated Dorf Command (Commands-Mezdorf, by Cossack Warrior) & Serenissima (Lonhro-Santissima, by Quest For Fame). Ortensia (a $50,000 yearling at the 2007 Inglis Premier Sale in Melbourne) now has 5 wins (also including 2008's Gr3 Thousand Guineas Prelude over 1400m at Caulfield) & 2 placings (including 2008's Gr3 TBV/Eliza Park Champagne Stakes over 1200m at Moonee Valley) from 7 starts for $275,517 earnings.
