US Sire Scarlet Ibis Dies Aged 23
Former New York sire Scarlet Ibis (who stood 14 years at Highcliff Farm before being pensioned following the 2003 breeding season) died "of a heart attack at the farm" aged 23, reported bloodhorse.com. Scarlet Ibis (Cormorant-Fifties Galore, by Cornish Prince) was named 1988 New York champion 2YO after winning 5 of his 6 juvenile races (including divisions of the New York Stallion Stakes over both 6 furlongs & 8 furlongs, plus the Damon Runyon Stakes & Empire Stakes). Scarlet Ibis (a half-brother to Mexican Gr1-winner & New York Gr2-winner Claramount) was retired after his 2YO because of a tendon problem & subsequently sired 9 stakes winners.
