King's Best Adds US Gr3

Former Darley shuttler King's Best (Kingmambo-Allegretta, by Lombard) added a US graded-stakes success when UK-bred 5YO gelding Spice Route (King's Best-Zanzibar, by In The Wings) scored a 2-lengths victory in the US$200,000 Gr3 Elkhorn Stakes (12 furlongs) for 4YOs & up at Keeneland. Spice Route (ridden by Rene Douglas for trainer Roger Attfield) defeated German-bred 7YO entire Musketier (Acatenango-Myth And Reality, by Linamix) & 8YO gelding Brass Hat (Prized-Brassy, by Dixie Brass). Spice Route took his overall record to 5 wins (also including 2008's Gr3 Tropical Turf Handicap over 9 furlongs at Calder) & 7 placings (including February's Gr2 MacDiarmida Handicap at Gulfstream Park, plus 2008's Gr1 Canadian International Stakes over 12 furlongs at Woodbine, Canadian Gr2 Sky Classic Handicap over 11 furlongs at Woodbine, UK Gr3 Huxley Stakes over 10.5 furlongs at Chester, UK Listed Festival Stakes over 10 furlongs at Goodwood & UK Listed Magnolia Stakes over 10 furlongs at Kempton) from 19 starts for US$719,647 earnings.
