Burgeis Wins Proud Miss Stakes

Monday, 4th May 2009

Ill-fated Gr1 Golden Slipper-winning Yarraman Park sire Catbird (Danehill-Fitting, by Marscay) added a juvenile black-type success when 3YO filly Burgeis (Catbird-Grand Performance, by Palace Music) scored by a neck against older rivals in the $70,000 Listed Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) for fillies & mares at Morphettville. Burgeis (ridden by Jason Benbow for trainer Tony Vasil) defeated Belleza Veloz (Hemingway-Brocco Dancer, by Brocco) & Boogaloo (Encosta de Lago-Tyrises, by Last Tycoon). Burgeis (a $160,000 yearling at the 2007 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) now has 2 wins & 3 placings (including 2008's Gr1 Arrowfield Stud Blue Diamond Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield, Gr2 VRC Sires' Produce Stakes over 1400m at Flemington & Gr3 Blue Diamond Prelude over 1100m at Caulfield) from 13 starts for $212,845 earnings.
