Mr Hornblower Wins Prime Minister's Cup

Monday, 4th May 2009

Deceased former Glen Avon Stud stallion Admiralty (Strawberry Road-Savannah Slew, by Seattle Slew) added a black-type success when 7YO gelding Mr Hornblower (Admiralty-Anika Joy, by Tirol) was 2nd-across-the-line but awarded the race on protest in the $175,000 Listed Prime Minister's Cup (1300m) at the Gold Coast, to take the event for the 2nd time (having previously won it in 2007). Mr Hornblower (ridden by Glen Colless for trainer Tracy Green) duly defeated favoured 4YO gelding Rightfully Yours (Show A Heart-Academy Of Dreams, by Royal Academy) who had been 1st-across-the-line, with top-weighted fellow 4YO gelding El Cambio (Commands-Chaparra, by Canny Lad) in 3rd place. Mr Hornblower (a $3,000 yearling at the 2003 QBBS Sale in Brisbane) now has 10 wins (also including 2007's Listed Eye Liner Stakes over 1350m at Ipswich) & 17 placings (including 2008's Gr3 Darley BTC Sprint over 1350m at Doomben & Listed Queensland Racing Quality over 1200m at Doomben, plus 2007's Gr3 Darley BTC Sprint over 1350m at Doomben & Listed Prime Minister's Cup over 1300m at the Gold Coast) from 60 starts for $600,600 earnings.
