The Meista Wins NZ Canterbury Cup

Monday, 4th May 2009

Dual-Derby winning Coolmore sire & former NZ Windsor Park shuttler Montjeu (Sadler's Wells-Floripedes, by Top Ville) added a group success when 3YO gelding The Meista (Montjeu-Zablinka, by Zabeel) scored a 1.25-lengths victory against older rivals in the NZ$100,000 weight-for-age Gr3 Canterbury Gold Cup (2000m) at Riccarton Park. The Meista (ridden by Daniel Bothamley for trainers Peter & Dawn Williams) defeated 6YO mare Mirkola Lass (Prized-Gun Lady, by Guns Of Navarone) & 5YO mare O'Reilly Rose (O'Reilly-Rose World, by Grosvenor). The Meista now has 5 wins & 5 placings (including February's Gr2 Telecom Championship Stakes over 2100m at Ellerslie & both January's Gr3 Waikato Guineas over 2000m at Te Rapa & Gr3 Wellington Stakes over 1600m at Trentham) from 13 starts for NZ$150,650 earnings.
