Thursday, 7th May 2009

UK Lingfield racecourse's modernisation push "reached the traditional topping-out stage, when officials from owner Arena Leisure & franchiser Marriott joined the architects, designers, builders & local grandees to celebrate progress on the hotel, conference & leisure project," reported racingpost.com. The L-shaped track-side venture (a 116-bed 4-star hotel, spa, swimming pool & golf clubhouse) "is costing £25 million (A$52m) with a further £4 million (A$8.3m) being spent on improving other facilities". Arena chief executive Mark Elliott revealed the site (which will open in a year's time) would be known as the Marriott-Lingfield Park hotel & country club & was intended to be "a complete leisure & business destination" adding racing, golf & fitness facilities to 5-star conference & event capacity.
