Jumps Racing Suspended In Victoria
Racing Victoria chief executive Rob Hines dramatically announced yesterday afternoon that jumps racing in his state has been suspended until the RV Board holds "a special meeting next week to consider the incidents that have occurred in the jumps season to date & the future of jumps racing in Victoria". In the immediate aftermath of the headline-hogging deaths of 3 horses during this week's Warrnambool Grand Annual Steeplechase carnival, Hines has asked the RV Jumps Review Panel "to prepare a report for the Board on each of the 5 horse fatalities that have occurred in jumps races & trials this season". Three jump races that were scheduled to be conducted at the Moe meeting on Sunday will now be run as high-weight flat races. Hines said "a decision on the future of jumps racing will be announced by the end of next week" (Friday 15 May).
