US Boom Filly Rachel Alexandra Sold To Stonestreet
In the US, Jess Jackson's Stonestreet Stables & Harold McCormick have purchased last weekend's "spectacular Gr1 Kentucky Oaks winner Rachel Alexandra from Dolphus Morrison & Mike Lauffer," reported bloodhorse.com. Boom filly Rachel Alexandra (Medaglia D'Oro-Lotta Kim, by Roar) made it 4 successive stakes victories this season when she slaughtered her rivals by a staggering 20.25-lengths in the Gr1 Kentucky Oaks (9 furlongs) at Churchill Downs & Jackson enthused: "Rachel Alexandra is one of the best horses in racing today. She is fast, strong & durable: the traits we should all be breeding into all future generations of race horses. Her beauty & athleticism will thrill thousands of fans." Kentucky-bred Rachel Alexandra boasts 7 wins (also including April's Gr2 Fantasy Stakes by 8.75-lengths over 8.5 furlongs at Oaklawn Park, plus March's Gr2 Fair Grounds Oaks over 8.5 furlongs & February's Listed Martha Washington Stakes by 8-lengths over 8 furlongs at Oaklawn Park, as well as 2008's Gr2 Golden Rod Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Churchill Downs) & 2 runners-up (including 2008's Gr3 Debutante Stakes over 6 furlongs at Churchill Downs) from 10 starts for US$958,354 earnings. Jackson confirmed that when Rachel Alexandra's racing career concludes, he will breed her to dual US Horse-Of-The-Year Curlin (who was retired by Jackson following his 2008 racing campaign) & summed up: "We are tremendously excited by the prospect of one day seeing the offspring of Curlin & Rachel Alexandra. But for now, the story of this filly is still being written. My 4 daughters & granddaughter will be delighted this super filly will race in our colours."
