Montjeu Adds Irish Gr2

Monday, 11th May 2009

In Ireland overnight, dual-Derby winning Coolmore sire & former NZ Windsor Park shuttler Montjeu (Sadler's Wells-Floripedes, by Top Ville) added a group success when unbeaten UK-bred colt Fame And Glory (Montjeu-Gryada, by Shirley Heights) blitzed his rivals by 5-lengths in the €120,000 (A$223,000) Gr2 Derby Trial Stakes (10 furlongs) for 3YOs at Leopardstown. Fame And Glory (ridden by Johnny Murtagh for trainer Aidan O'Brien) defeated fellow colts Mourayan (Alhaarth-Mouramara, by Kahyasi) & Fergus McIver (Sadler's Wells-Danelissima, by Danehill). Fame And Glory was a 190,000 guineas (A$418,000) foal at the UK Tattersalls 2006 December Sale & at his previous start he returned from a 5-months spell to win April's Gr3 Ballysax Stakes (10 furlongs) at Leopardstown. Last year Fame And Glory also won France's Gr1 Criterium De Saint-Cloud (2000m) in November & now boasts 4 wins from 4 starts.
