Soviet Star Adds UK Gr3

Former NZ Haunui Stud shuttler Soviet Star (Nureyev-Veruschka, by Venture) added a UK group success when 5YO entire Buccellati (Soviet Star-Susi Wong, by Selkirk) scored a front-running 3-lengths victory in the £75,000 (A$155,000) Gr3 Ormonde Stakes (13.5 furlongs) for 4YOs & up at Chester. Buccellati (ridden by William Buick for trainer Andrew Balding) defeated 4YO entires Scintillo (Fantastic Light-Danseuse Du Soir, by Thatching) & German-bred favourite & last year's Gr1 Irish Derby winner Frozen Fire (Montjeu-Flamingo Sea, by Woodman). Buccellati was a 25,000 guineas (A$55,000) yearling at the 2005 UK Tattersalls October Sale & overall now has 8 wins (also including 2008's Gr3 St Simon Stakes over 12 furlongs at Newbury & Listed Godolphin Stakes over 12 furlongs at Newmarket) & 2 placings (including last start's Gr3 Gordon Richards Stakes over 10 furlongs at Sandown Park on April 25) from 22 starts for £265,386 (A$550,000) earnings.
