Cape Cross Adds UK Gr3

Friday, 15th May 2009

In the UK overnight, former Darley shuttler Cape Cross (Green Desert-Park Appeal, by Ahonoora) added a group success when ultra-consistent 4YO mare Crystal Capella (Cape Cross-Crystal Star, by Mark Of Esteem) returned from a 7-months spell to land her 6th successive victory (& 4th successive stakes-win) in the £65,000 (A$131,000) Gr3 Middleton Stakes (10.5 furlongs) for mares 4YO & up at York. Crystal Capella (ridden by Ryan Moore for trainer Sir Michael Stoute) snatched victory by a short-head from favoured fellow 4YO mare Dar Re Mi (Singspiel-Darara, by Top Ville) & another 4YO mare Princess Taylor (Singspiel-Tapas En Bal, by Mille Balles). Last year Crystal Capella's 5 successive victories included the Gr2 Pride Stakes (12 furlongs) at Newmarket, Gr3 Princess Royal Stakes (12 furlongs) at Ascot & Listed Alice Keppel Stakes (10 furlongs) at Goodwood. Overall she now boasts 6 wins & 2 runners-up from 8 starts.
