Monday, 18th May 2009

In the US, Australian-bred gallopers finished 1st & 3rd in a graded-stakes race as former Anthony Cummings-trained 5YO entire Red Arrow (Red Ransom-Lady Jakeo, by Last Tycoon) scored a front-running 0.75-length victory in the US$100,000 Gr3 Los Angeles Handicap (6 furlongs on all-weather) at Hollywood Park in California. Red Arrow (ridden by Joe Talamo for trainer John Sadler) clocked 1min 8.92sec in defeating 5YO gelding Paul's Hope (Lake Austin-Fondest Hope, by Personal Hope) & former Gai Waterhouse-trained fellow Australian-bred 3YO gelding Dehere Again (Dehere-Let's Rock Again, by Chief's Crown) who was making his US debut. Red Arrow (bred by Vinery Stud & a $225,000 yearling at the 2005 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) notched his 3rd win from 5 US starts; overall he now has 4 wins & 5 placings (including both 2008's Listed Sir John Monash Stakes over 1100m at Caulfield & his final southern hemisphere race in the Gr3 Bletchingly Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield) from 15 starts for US$175,482 earnings. Dehere Again (bred by John Singleton's Strawberry Hill Stud & a $180,000 yearling at the 2007 Magic Millions Premier Sale on the Gold Coast) won 2 of his 4 Sydney starts before being sold to America & is now trained by Mike Mitchell.
