Governor Backs Video Gambling At Kentucky Tracks
We-Have-Seen-The-Future Update: Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear & Democratic House leaders "discussed the future of legislation that would allow video gambling at racetracks to boost the state's ailing horse industry," reported bloodhorse.com. The meeting came 3 days after Churchill Downs cut this season's race days & decreased purses citing "financial troubles". Beshear (a Democrat who based his 2007 campaign for governor "largely on his support for additional gambling in Kentucky") said no decision was made, but declared the state's horse industry was "in crisis" & noted: "It seems now to be snowballing & the industry is really getting close to being in freefall. I think it would be tragic if we don't do everything we can to prevent that."
