Rio Osa Wins Dark Jewel Classic

Monday, 18th May 2009

Former Woodlands Stud & now Darley sire Canny Lad (Bletchingly-Jesmond Lass, by Lunchtime) added a black-type success when 4YO mare Rio Osa (Canny Lad-Peach, by Vain) scored a 2-lengths victory in the $110,000 Listed Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) for fillies & mares at Scone. Rio Osa (ridden by Tye Angland for trainer Peter Snowden) defeated 5YO mare Hairy (Fuji Kiseki-Final Waltz, by Danehill) & favoured top-weighted 3YO filly Portillo (Red Ransom-Snowdrift, by Polish Precedent). Rio Osa now has 3 wins (also including 2007's Listed Seppelt Wines Sprint over 1000m at Sandown) & 3 runners-up from 17 starts for $243,150 earnings.
