Monday, 18th May 2009

On the Australian track, ill-fated former Durham Lodge stallion Scenic (Sadler's Wells-Idyllic, by Foolish Pleasure) added a Gr1 triumph (& 13th individual Gr1-winner) when 6YO gelding Scenic Shot (Scenic-Sweepshot, by Dr Grace) scored by a nose in the $500,000 weight-for-age Gr1 Doomben Cup (2020m) at Doomben in Brisbane. Scenic Shot (ridden by Shane Scriven for trainer Daniel Morton) defeated fellow 6YO gelding Racing To Win (Encosta de Lago-Surrealist, by Kenny's Best Pal) & front-running 7YO gelding Sir Slick (Volksraad-Miss Opera, by Paris Opera). Scenic Shot (a $36,000 yearling at the 2003 Magic Millions Premier Sale in Perth) now has 12 wins (also including 2008's Gr2 O'Shea Stakes over 2200m at Eagle Farm & Gr2 Hollindale Stakes over 1800m at the Gold Coast, plus 2006's Gr2 C.B.Cox Stakes over 2400m at Ascot, Listed J.C.Roberts Stakes over 1800m & Listed Aquanita Stakes over 1600m, as well as 2005's Listed T.J.Smith Trophy over 1800m) & 10 placings (including 2008's Gr3 Hyperion Stakes over 1400m at Ascot, plus 2007's Gr1 Turnbull Stakes over 2000m at Flemington & 2006's Gr1 Fruit N Veg Stakes over 1800m at Ascot, Listed Birthday Stakes over 1200m at Belmont Park, Gr1 WATC Derby over 2400m at Ascot & Listed Magic Millions Challenge Stakes over 1400m) from 47 starts for $1,481,880 earnings.
