Aust-Bred Tropical Empire Wins South Africa Gr2

In South Africa, former Heytesbury Stud shuttler Second Empire (Fairy King-Welsh Love, by Ela-Mama-Mou) added a group success when Australian-bred 6YO entire Tropical Empire (Second Empire-Tropical Touch, by Pago Pago) scored a 2-lengths victory in the Gr2 Betting World Stakes (1900m) at Greyville. Tropical Empire (ridden by Brandon Lerena for trainer Duncan Howells) defeated 4YO geldings Cape Town (Silvano-Russian Nature, by Russian Fox) & Air Combat (Jet Master-Shoot The Booze, by All Fired Up). At his previous start, Tropical Empire (a $17,000 yearling consigned from Canardly Stud at the 2004 Magic Millions Perth Premier Sale) finished runner-up in the Gr2 Drill Hall Stakes at Greyville; overall he now has 7 wins (also including January's Listed Michael Roberts Handicap over 1800m at Scottsville) & 9 placings from 27 starts for over R750,000 (A$114,000) earnings.
