Bletchley Park Adds Hong Kong Gr3

Monday, 25th May 2009

In Hong Kong yesterday, Western Australia's Lynward Park-based stallion Bletchley Park (Caerleon-Enigma, by Ahonoora) added a group success when Australian-bred 6YO gelding Gallant Lion (Bletchley Park-Chanviel, by Jevington) scored by a neck in the HK$2.3million (A$460,000) Gr3 Sha Tin Vase (1200m) at Sha Tin. Gallant Lion (ridden by Australian jockey Zac Purton for trainer Caspar Fownes) defeated fellow Australian-bred 4YO gelding Brilliant Chapter (Commands-Lirico, by Rigoletto) & another 4YO gelding Nightlign (Align-Indian Squaw, by Carolingian). At his previous start, Gallant Lion (a $45,000 yearling consigned by Mungrup Stud at the 2004 Magic Millions Perth Premier Sale) finished runner-up in last month's Gr1 Macau Hong Kong Trophy over 1500m at Taipa. He originally raced in Western Australia as Lock The Vault, where he finished runner-up (as a 3YO against older rivals) in the 2005 Gr1 Fruit N Veg Stakes (1800m) at Ascot & also notched stakes-placings in the Gr2 WA Guineas (1600m) at Ascot, Listed T.J.Smith Trophy (1800m) at Ascot, Listed Fairetha Stakes (1400m) at Ascot & Listed Belgravia Stakes (1200m) at Belmont Park.
