Kendor Adds Italian Black-Type

Monday, 25th May 2009

Also in Italy overnight, ill-fated former Arrowfield Stud shuttler Kendor (Kenmare-Belle Mecene by Gay Mecene) added a black-type success when Irish-bred 4YO mare Vattene (Kendor-Voglia Matta, by Second Set) scored by a short-head in the €77,000 (A$139,000) Listed Premio Royal Mares (1600m) for fillies & mares at San Siro. Vattene (ridden by Marco Monteriso for trainer Marco Gasparini) defeated fellow Irish-bred 4YO mare Magic Eye (Nayef-Much Commended, by Most Welcome) & 3YO filly Piperita (Observatory-Pursuit Of Charge, by Pursuit Of Love). At her previous start, Vattene finished 3rd in Italy's Listed Premio Tadolina (1600m) at the Capannelle in Rome on May. Last year she also won the Listed Pietro Bessero (1600m) at San Siro & Listed Premio Nogara (1400m) at San Siro, as well as placing in the Gr3 Premio Regina Elena (1600m) at the Capannelle; & in 2007 she won the Listed Criterium Femminile (1500m) at the Capannelle, as well as placing in both the Listed Premio Ubaldo Pandolfi (1200m) at the Capannelle & Listed Premio Coolmore (1500m) at San Siro. Overall Vattene now has 6 wins & 6 placings from 15 starts.
