Friday, 12th June 2009

Also at Bendigo yesterday, regally-bred 2YO colt Leoncavallo (Giant's Causeway-Prawn Cocktail, by Artichoke) recorded his 1st win at his 2nd start with victory over 1300m for trainer David Hayes. Leoncavallo (retained to race by Coolmore after failing to make his $450,000 reserve at the 2008 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) is a half-brother to Gr2-winner Langoustine & Gr3-winner One World. Other foals from his dam Prawn Cocktail (a half-sister to multiple Gr1-winning Coolmore stallion Royal Academy) include: a yearling colt by Lure sold for a sale-topping $800,000 at the 1998 Inglis Easter Sale; a yearling colt by Danehill sold for $2.2 million at the 2004 Inglis Easter Sale; & a yearling filly by Encosta de Lago sold for $700,000 at the 2009 Inglis Easter Sale.
