Galileo Adds UK Black-Type

Monday, 22nd June 2009

Elsewhere in the UK overnight, former Coolmore shuttler & Gr1 English Derby winner Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) added a black-type success when Italian-bred 5YO entire Furmigadelagiusta (Galileo-Sispre, by Master Willie) scored a 2.5-lenngths victory in the £45,000 (A$92,000) Listed Castle Stakes (12 furlongs) for 4YOs & up at Pontefract. Furmigadelagiusta (ridden by Philip Makin for trainer Karl Burke) defeated favoured Irish-bred 5YO entire Drumfire (Danehill Dancer-Witch Of Fife, by Lear Fan) & fellow Irish-bred 4YO entire Unleashed (Storming Home-Uriah, by Acatenango). Furmigadelagiusta "could also be Melbourne Cup bound" noted racingpost.com after trainer Burke "who holds the horse in high regard, was pleased with the way he handled the good-to-firm going, having previously shown smart form on softer ground". Burke confirmed: "He could be a Cup horse next season & we've always thought a lot of him. We will even think about putting him in the Melbourne Cup this season. He would not mind soft ground, but would not want it firm. We ran him today to see how he went on this good-to-firm with the Melbourne Cup in mind."
