Danehill Adds Irish Gr3

Monday, 29th June 2009

Coolmore's ill-fated multiple champion sire Danehill (Danzig-Razyana, by His Majesty) added an Irish group success when 5YO mare Profound Beauty (Danehill-Diamond Trim, by Highest Honor) returned to the track for her 1st run since finishing 5th in last year's Gr1 Melbourne Cup & snatched victory in a 3-way photo-finish to the €70,000 (A$120,000) Listed Curragh Cup (14 furlongs) at The Curragh. Profound Beauty (ridden by Pat Smullen for trainer Dermot Weld) scored by a neck from 4YO entire Alandi (Galileo-Aliya, by Darshaan) with a further head to UK-bred 3YO colt Yankee Doodle (Dalakhani-Bella Lambada, by Lammtarra). Profound Beauty took her overall record to 4 wins (also including 2008's Listed Challenge Stakes over 14 furlongs at Leopardstown) & 5 placings (including 2008's Gr3 Ballyroan Stakes over 12 furlongs at Leopardstown, Gr3 Noblesse Stakes over 12 furlongs at Cork, Gr3 Blue Wind Stakes over 10 furlongs at Naas & Listed Alleged Stakes over 10 furlongs at The Curragh) from 12 starts for €254,468 (A$436,000) earnings. Trainer Weld indicated after the race that Profound Beauty is again heading to the Melbourne Cup, after a tilt at September's Gr1 Irish St Leger.
