Munsef Confirmed For Melbourne Cup Bid
Meanwhile UK-trained 7YO gelding Munsef (Zafonic-Mazaya, by Sadler's Wells) "has been given the green light for an ambitious raid on the Melbourne Cup," reported turftrax.com. At his last 2 starts, Munsef finished 2nd a week ago in Sweden's Gr3 Stockholm Cup International (2400m) at Taby & 2nd in August's UK Listed Chester Stakes (13.5 furlongs). Trainer Ian Williams confirmed: "We discussed the matter during the week & decided he should take his chance. He has a nice weight (53kg) & that should guarantee him a run." Munsef will leave Williams' West Midlands yard on Thursday for Newmarket "where he will spend 2 weeks in quarantine before making the long trek to Australia".
