Occidentalis Wins NZ Karaka Classic

Monday, 21st September 2009

Ill-fated former Durham Lodge stallion Scenic (Sadler's Wells-Idyllic, by Foolish Pleasure) added a NZ black-type success when Australian-bred 6YO gelding Occidentalis (Scenic-Rosa's Wish, by Rory's Jester) scored a 3.25-lengths victory in yesterday's NZ$60,000 Listed Westbury Stud Karaka Classic (1600m) at Pukekohe Park. Occidentalis (ridden by James McDonald for trainers Richard & Chris Otto) defeated 5YO entire Nom Du Jeu (Montjeu-Prized Gem, by Prized) & fellow 6YO gelding Ginga Dude (Istidaad-Clatitude, by Clay Hero). Occidentalis (a 12,000 weanling at the 2004 Magic Millions National Sale) now has 6 wins & 4 placings (including March's Gr2 Japan/NZ Trophy at Gate Pa) from 17 starts for NZ$155,065 earnings.
